Metroplex sees rising gas prices in hurricane’s wake

In the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey making landfall on the South Texas coast this week, gas prices in the Metroplex are rising. The effects have led to outages in some gas stations, including locations in Arlington. Shot for The Shorthorn.

UTA Athletics honors Nancy Baker's memory

Athletics director Jim Baker invited friends, family and members of UTA Athletics to honor his wife, Nancy Baker, on Sept. 13 during Nancy's Night celebration.

Baker unveiled a plaque inside of the recently named Nancy Baker Clubhouse. Later, donations were made to fund the Nancy Baker Endowed Scholarship at Allan Saxe Field. Shot for The Shorthorn.

Angleton resident Angel Nava, 25, sits on the curb of Valero, a gas station at 615 W. Abram St., while waiting for his girlfriend to accompany him Aug. 31. Nava said he was waiting in a line that stretched east on Abram Street until his car engine stopped working. Nava has stayed in Arlington with his girlfriend since evacuating his home Aug. 27 for Hurricane Harvey. “I thought that we’d be kind of, like, unaffected 'cause we’re so far north but I guess all the refineries down the coast shutting down affected this too,” he said.
